Greetings ~

Most of the blogs that I write are about events that took place long before I was born. And, in most cases, they happened far from my area. However, A lot has happened around here and sometimes I tell local stories. This is one of them. And it's an event that I remember very well.
I was 13-years old when the collapse of Tallmadge Parkway acured. We had had a big storm and a lot of rain fell in a short period of time. This caused Tallmadge Parkway to break open as a result, three people, a bystander, an Akron police officer and a ten year old child all were killed.
I ventured down to the spot the next day with my cousin and we looked it over. The photographs do not do it justice. It was a huge hole and really deep. I can still hear the water rushing below. July 21, 1964 was a sad day. Not only for the families of the victims, but for the city at large. Anyone who lived at that time and are still alive today remembers this incident. I remember it well.
I wrote this blog to tell the story of a little girl who lost her life plus two very brave heroes who died trying hard to save her. They did manage to save two others before losing their own lives.
